Pedagogic Profile

Grigol Kobakhidze discovered his passion for music education during his early piano studies in Tbilisi, deeply inspired by the Georgian pedagogical tradition. Combining this classical foundation with his teenage interest in pop and film scores, he independently explored modern composition. While studying conducting at the Tbilisi State Conservatoire and the Norwegian Academy of Music, he focused deeply on courses of music theory, counterpoint, harmony, and ear training. Alongside these demands, he pursued composition and arranging as secondary subjects, building foundations in music technology, notation, and audio production software.

His formal teaching career started in 2019 at private music schools while studying in Germany. Driven by a growing dedication to didactic methods, he followed his Master’s in orchestral conducting with an intensive year of instrumental pedagogy at the HfMT Cologne. This led him to positions at the Rheinische Musikschule der Stadt Köln (2022) and the Kunst- und Musikschule der Stadt Brühl (2023). In 2024, together with his colleagues, he launched new theory courses and took over the entrance exam preparation classes in Brühl. That same year, he established the Youth Sinfonietta in Cologne, harmoniously blending his conducting expertise with his pedagogical skills.

Committed to lifelong learning, Grigol continuously integrates innovative teaching methods, including physical or sports involvement and the use of digital tools for rhythm and sight-reading exercises. In his lessons, a great focus is placed on music history and listening. By analysing both classical works and contemporary harmonies, he tries to give his students different challenges. Grigol actively explores modern new-age piano repertoire to keep his piano students updated, and regularly arranges and conducts film scores for his youth orchestra. Bringing all these practical skills into his teaching, he seeks to ensure a well-rounded musical education for his students.
